By Invitation is the first fragrance from brand Michael Buble. “Like Michael’s music, By Invitation is both modern and timeless”. Described as a crisp floral oriental fragrance, I would say fruity floral with a hint of oriental is more accurate.
By Invitation recently won the Readers Choice for Women as voted by the readers of Elle UK at the Fragrance Foundation 2017 Awards. There was a separate category for Celebrity Fragrances yet By Invitation won amongst its mainstream competitors which is even more impressive considering it was up against Viktor & Rolfs Bonbon Couture, Marc Jacobs Divine Decadance, Leighton Dennys Light & Dark Delightful, Estee Lauder’s Modern Muse Nuit, 4160 Tuesdays Mother Nature’s Naughty Daughters and Chanels No5 L’Eau.
Top Notes include Red Fruits & Bergamot while heart notes listed are Lily-of-the-Valley, Rose, Wild Jasmine and Spicy Peony. Base notes include Sandalwood, Musks, Praline and Vanilla which gives its Oriental feel. The nose behind the fragrance is Karine Dubreuil who has also worked with brands such as Azzaro, Gucci, Lanvin and L’Occitane.
The bottle itself is meant to give the illusion of glass suspended in a gold bracelet which didn’t initial spring to my mind. However what did stand out to me was the cap which is a reminder of the atomisers rarely seen on perfume bottles today.
“It’s no secret that I’m a hopeless romantic. Its in every note I sing and every song I write. The idea was to create a special ‘Invitation’ to fans into my new world of fragrance. I’m inviting women to enjoy a beautiful scent that represents my personal taste and imagination. By Invitation is what I’d call ‘Love in a bottle’.” Michael Buble
By Invitation is the first fragrance from Michael Buble but I have a sneaky suspicion it won’t be the last.
